Genomics and Proteomics Analysis

This course was designed to address the shortage of man power with skills in using in-silico tools to analyze genomic data and produce new drug targets.

The objective of this course is to train professionals in the analysis of genomics and proteomics data. The course covers topics related to molecular biology, genome analysis, functional and structural genomics, recombinant DNA technology, and DNA & protein sequence data analysis.

The course includes several experiments in wet-lab and computational methodologies.

Laboratory Work:

A set of laboratory experiments will guide you through the steps in cloning a gene.

Laboratory skills you will learn include include: isolation of genomic DNA, isolation and purification of vector DNA, restriction enzyme digestion of genomic and vector DNA, ligation of vector and genomic DNA fragments, transformation of bacteria and selection of recombinants, selection of clones expressing the gene, Southern, Northern and Western blotting, and polymerase chain reaction.

In-silico skills you will learn: Genome analysis, microarray data analysis, proteome data analysis, DNA/ protein sequence analysis using GCG Wisconsin Package, pharmacogenomics, data mining and metabolic pathways.
